Now that Valentine’s Day is over, it’s time to get down to the nitty grittyyyy…sorry I’ve been playing a lot of HQ. Anyway….I want to get a little more personal and share how I got here and why I finally started my blog
It’s a crazy thing. This world is small and life can throw you exactly what you need when you need it.
I have been thinking about blogging as long as I can remember. I started a little WordPress.com blog back in college that was nothing serious {you can view it here}. I didn’t take it seriously, I didn’t post quality content, I didn’t invest enough time or money into it to make it anything worth while.
New Year
One day I was listening to channel 94.1, a hit radio station in Omaha. They were promoting a huge event for New Years. DJ, drinks, dancing, the whole nine. Omaha has never had anything like this and I was immediately obsessed with going. I’m always looking for fun and different things to do in Omaha. It’s a challenge sometimes. The only problem with this party: it was pricey at $100 a ticket.
I asked all my friends if they wanted to go, but no one wanted to pay that much for a party, so I resorted to begging Danny to go with me. Parties, clubs and dancing are all things that Danny doesn’t really enjoy. I knew it would take some convincing, which is why I didn’t directly ask him in the first place. Buuuuut, he likes food and me, so I had to spin it around that angle.
The To the Nynes party was an all-inclusive event that was hosted at The Omaha Design Center. Admission included red carpet photos, unlimited food {including the best mac n cheese EVER} and drinks all night, a Vegas DJ and a champagne toast. To me, all of that is worth the money. And we got to stay inside all night on the coldest night in recorded Omaha history. It was -12 degrees. I couldn’t do what I did last New Years with that kind of weather…but I will get to that later.
I finally convinced Danny to go to this party. Even though he wasn’t really thrilled about the idea, he was happy to spend the night with just me (aw) and not a group of people. I felt the same.
We showed up to the party and it was everything I thought it would be, except they seemed underprepared for the amount of people they were hosting. The bar had a long line the entire night and there was hardly any seating despite the fact they were serving a full buffet dinner, including prime rib. At first we had to stand at a table and struggle to eat our food.
The night soon turned around and they set up more tables (YAS). But this is where it really gets good…
We snagged a spot at this community table right next to another couple who turned out to be JUST LIKE US. Nicole is a (more established) blogger and graphic designer and Jackson and Danny are exactly the same person, personality-wise. We clicked immediately and spent the entire night talking (well, yelling over the music). How did we just happen to sit next to a couple so similar to us? I just couldn’t believe it…I still can’t.
I start talking to Niki and we had spent the last New Years in the exact same spot (the steps outside of T Henery’s), doing the exact same thing (spending midnight outside in the cold while we waited to get in). We both agreed this was a much better way to spend New Years.
New Friends
Danny and I have always had different sets of friends and we have never had friends (or another couple) that we were both friends with. Meeting Niki and Jackson was just what we needed. I find it super cute how excited the boys get to hang out. Since we’ve met them, we have watched the National Championship game, gone to their Super Bowl party, done a double date night {pictured} and then I met up with Niki to talk blog things. I’d say it’s getting pretty serious.
New Blog
I just want to give a shoutout to Niki, because I owe the start of this blog to her. I met her during a time where I was always thinking about starting a blog — REALLY starting one — but never took the time or thought I could do it. And then I meet her and she is actually blogging and becoming successful as a blogger and is just like me. It is actually crazy how similar we are. And it really pushed me to work hard and make it a reality. So, THANK YOU NICOLE!
I’m so excited to be here blogging and to be a part of this new friendship and a part of the Omaha blogging community. I don’t believe in making resolutions (post coming soon), but 2018 is going to be the best year, I can already tell. And if you’re reading this, you are helping to make my dreams a reality so THANK YOU! I couldn’t do this without you.
